Debut at the “Chopin and his Europe” Festival
Martijn‘s 2024/25 season kicked off with a concert at the Chopin and his Europe Festival, together with Sinfonia Varsovia and pianists Dang Thai Son, Eric Lu and Sophia Liu. The performance of Karłowicz’s seldomly heard Eternal Songs received standing ovations.
After a vibrant reading of Haydn’s Echo symphony, the three pianists performed Mozart’s concerto for three piano’s, KV 242. After the break, Sophia Liu performed Chopin’s Variations on La ci darem la Mano, in which the orchestra and Martijn had a flawless communication in accompanying the virtuoso piece.
The concert concluded with a performance of Eternal Songs by Polish composer Miecyzlaw Karłowicz. The deeply emotional perofmance was given standing ovations by the audience in the sold-out National Philharmonic Hall of Warsaw.
This concert marks his fifth appearance with Poland’s most foremost orchestra. Martijn will return to Sinfonia Varsovia for a guest performance at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf on October 30, featuring pianist Rafał Blechacz.
