Debut in Austria
On 21 and 22 April, Martijn conducted the Tonkünstler-Orchester Wien in the Festsaal of the Baden Casino, as well as in the Kasematten concert hall in Wiener Neustadt. This highly acclaimed debut in Austria featured a program with music from the Nordic countries. The concerts opened with the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg, which was then followed by the marimba concerto No. 1 by Danish composer Anders Koppel. Joachim Murnig, percussionist in the Tonkünstler-Orchester, excelled as soloist in this concerto. The program concluded with Sibelius’ first symphony, a work well-known to Martijn after equally praised performances in Bologna and Eindhoven.
Martijn will return to the Tonkünstler-Orchester Wien in the main season of 2025/26.
